Prolucent, a trailblazer in leveraging technology and data to streamline hiring processes, sought to diminish hiring costs and time-to-hire rates significantly. Our collaboration focused on building an internal Vendor Management System (VMS) and assembling a robust development team to bolster Prolucent’s tech framework and operational efficiency.

About Prolucent

Prolucent is a technology company that helps healthcare organizations reduce labor costs and time-to-hire. Based in Dallas, Texas, Prolucent leverages advanced technology, data analytics, and industry knowledge to optimize staffing and control costs.

The Challenge

Prolucent needed to construct an internal VMS (Vendor Management System) from scratch. Their goal was to develop a product that was intuitive and easy to use, as most VMS solutions on the market were convoluted, archaic, and difficult to use.

Definition of a vendor management system and its key features

Prolucent approached us to help with the project. Their aims included enhanced usability, feature-richness, and superior productivity. The project required a scalable development team adept at addressing these core objectives. However, as we got deeper into the project, Scalable Path’s role expanded to structuring a competent team, including a lead software architect, nine full-time developers, and part-time specialists, to work across two pivotal projects: the public LiquidCompass project and the internal VMS initiative.

The Solution: Technical Leadership and Comprehensive Developer Vetting

Prolucent needed a high-performing, technologically adept team, and we supplied both technology leadership and skilled developers. We appointed Trevor Wencl, a software architect, to lead the project and ensure that team members followed Agile practices and methodologies effectively.

“The team Scalable Path assembled for us crushes the mark on every critical point. The quality, speed and cost are impressive, but it’s the excellent customer experience and trust we’ve developed that set them apart.”

On the talent side, our solution entailed a dual-shore approach, combining both local and Latin American talent. This helped Prolucent keep their internal costs low without compromising quality.

In order to assemble the right team, our vetting focused on developers’ interest in user experience, creativity, and technical expertise.

Technical skills assessment

We employed our proprietary skills matrix to evaluate the technical ability of potential candidates, ensuring they possessed the necessary expertise in Prolucent’s key technological tools and platforms.

Real-World Simulation Exercises

Candidates underwent technical exercises designed to mimic actual project tasks, providing insight into their problem-solving abilities, coding proficiency, and approach to real-world challenges. These exercises were pivotal in assessing how potential hires would perform in the VMS development environment, emphasizing practical skills over theoretical knowledge.

Live Technical Interviews

Of course, we conducted thorough technical interviews in a live, video format. This allowed us to verify candidates’ identities and observe their problem-solving approaches firsthand.

English Fluency and Soft Skills Evaluation

Beyond technical expertise, we assessed candidates’ English proficiency and soft skills to guarantee effective communication and teamwork within the diverse, dual-shore team structure.

Stakeholder Feedback Integration

Final candidate selections were closely aligned with Prolucent’s feedback and preferences, ensuring that the hires were not only technically proficient but also aligned with the company’s culture and values.

Results

We helped Prolucent assemble a robust team that had experience with Prolucent’s key tools (GitHub, Slack, Kanban), and meshed with the company culture.

“The developers Scalable Path helped us hire had a seamless cultural fit with Prolucent. They all work through the same tool sets and fluidly communicate with the team.”

Prolucent’s leadership team were especially impressed on two points:

  • The speed we were able to hire: Our efficient hiring process ensured the rapid assembly of a high-caliber team.
  • Client Experience: Scalable Path’s high-touch, responsive service stood out, making the hiring process smooth. We also work with clients beyond the hiring process, helping them to train and onboard developers for success.

Conclusion

Our engagement with Prolucent not only facilitated the development of a key internal system, but also established a framework for continued innovation and operational efficiency. And our long-standing relationship with Prolucent is ongoing: we continue to work with Prolucent today. Our partnership is a key example of Scalable Path’s commitment to truly understanding the clients we work with, and delivering the best possible hiring experience.
